We watched Peter Pan (live action, not Disney) this weekend with the kids. Very exciting, very pirate-y, very everything Peter Pan should be. So, I spent the rest of the weekend hearing little snippets of conversation with the kids:
Grant (in the bathroom): "I do believe in fairies! I do! I do!"
Nora (with a grin): "I don't believe in fairies! I don't! I don't!"
Me: "But remember what happens when you say that?"
Nora (wider grin): "I don't believe in fairies! I don't! I don't!"
Despite Nora's unwillingness to believe, both kids happily helped me make a fairy house on Sunday afternoon. Pictures to follow!

Heeeeere's Grant and Nora!
So, we recently purchased a FlipVideo (shameless plug), so watch here for more videos of the kids. Here are a few to whet your appetite:
Grant learning the piano (and listen for Nora's random conversation in the background):
Nora tells about herself:
First leaf pile of the fall:
I promise that there will be more soon!

A Random Slice of Summer
Even though I've been prepping three new courses for the fall, we've still had time to enjoy some summer stuff. We've spent lots of afternoons at our friends' pool, and lots of time in the backyard sandbox.
Some highlights:
Grant learned to climb our BIG TREE, and Nora learned how to finagle a push to the big tree...
Nora also learned to climb the little tree, but was a little less happy about it!

We went to local petting zoo with friends from church...

And we've spent lots of time riding bikes on the front sidewalk. Despite the picture, Nora does know how to pedal her trike herself. Very exciting stuff for a two-year-old!

For your viewing pleasure...
Since I just realized that some of my pictures on our digital camera were actually video clips...

Young Lions Hunger...*
So, this has been a tough week, what with a bank-induced blood-bath of fees, and a bike thief rummaging through our garage, but we've seen God at work.
We saw him work through family, some of whom stepped forward to help us in this financial crisis.
We are seeing him work through our church.
And we saw him work today in the following way: Even with family help, and the expectation of help from our church, I was not exactly sure how I was going to buy groceries this week (Imagine telling your son, "I'm sorry you dropped your food on the floor and it has dog hair on it now, but eat it anyway.").
While I was walking the dog this morning and praying, I reminded myself that God asks us to trust and to stop relying on our own sense that we can manufacture safety and good things for ourselves.
I went in to school today to print some stuff off for class tonight, and found out that a book buyer was unexpectedly dropping by. Since I needed to weed through my shelves anyway, I did a little extra scrounging and came up with some out-dated books. Enough books to buy groceries for the week, with money left over! I never say PTL, but PTL!
*Psalm 34:10

What they're saying...
So, what are the wee ones talking about this week?
Grant: Look at this bug, mummy. I think it must be a daddy bug. Because it just won't stop!
(Really? It's daddy who just won't stop?)

Nora: I grumpy today. Real hard.
(Grumpy. Diva. Who can tell the difference?)
Nora: (to me, in the pool yesterday): You my best friend. Just you.
(Enough said.)

Why Not To Travel With Children
So, this week we went to Harrisburg to visit my college roommates before one of them moved to Florida. B stayed home to finish working at his current job before starting his new job, so it was a Mummy-Grant-and-Nora trip.
The kids were excited about staying in a hotel. I was not. Especially once we got to the no-tell-motel and found sticky carpeted floors. How is this possible, you ask? I do not know! They became less excited about the hotel when it was bedtime. Nora decided she needed to sleep with me, as did Grant, so we compromised and decided I'd sleep part of the night with one, and part of the night with the other. All was fine until it was time for the "great switch."
I woke up at 3:30 and intended to go with Grant. Nora woke up and started sobbing that I needed to stay with her, so after checking on Grant, I climbed back into bed with her and got to listen (for 2 hours) to her questions:
Where is the moon?
What is on your pajamas?
Why don't I have a penis?
Grant woke up at about 4:30, and his first words were, "Mummy, I think I've got to throw up!" Excellent! Apparently he had picked up a bug at home that didn't show up until we got to the hotel.
The rest of our visit with old friends was pretty hazy for me. No sleep and sick kids does not a reunion make!
